Jantar Mantar on Alert Again : CJP Threatens Nationwide Protest, Parliament March from August 1

New Delhi: Just five days after suspending its 36-day-long agitation, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has once again sounded the protest bugle, announcing a fresh movement at Jantar Mantar and warning of a massive march to Parliament if the Centre fails to fulfil the commitments allegedly made during the July 25 talks. With barricades already erected, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) deployed and Delhi Police tightening security around the protest site, the national capital is preparing for another high-voltage political showdown.

CJP has accused the government of violating the understanding reached after negotiations by allowing fresh FIRs to be registered against protesters and students in several BJP-ruled states, while also continuing arrests despite assurances. The party has demanded the immediate withdrawal of all FIRs filed against protesters, the release of detained students and activists, a complete halt to new criminal cases, and the public disclosure of the July 25 agreement.

Addressing the media, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka alleged that the government’s actions amount to a breach of trust and warned that the party would intensify its nationwide agitation if corrective measures are not taken immediately. To strengthen its campaign, CJP has established a nationwide legal assistance cell and launched an online evidence platform named ‘Sakshi’ to collect videos, photographs and testimonies related to the protests. Adding momentum to the movement, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has announced a ₹1 crore legal aid fund to support students and protesters facing legal action.

The party has also expanded its campaign beyond protest-related issues by joining hands with the E-20 Janata Party to oppose the government’s ethanol-blended E-20 petrol policy. Calling the current fuel policy “flawed”, the parties have demanded that consumers be given the freedom to choose between E-0 (pure petrol), E-20 and E-85 fuel variants.

They claim that revising the ethanol blending policy could bring petrol prices down to ₹80–₹90 per litre while simultaneously increasing income opportunities for farmers. As part of the campaign, the parties have also demanded the resignation of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, holding him responsible for the implementation of the current fuel policy.

According to party leaders, the movement is receiving widespread support on social media, and preparations are underway for a major mobilisation in Delhi. Although the final dates are yet to be officially announced, sources indicate that the proposed Jantar Mantar-to-Parliament march could take place between August 1 and August 4, potentially marking the beginning of another major phase of political confrontation in the national capital.

With security agencies on high alert and thousands of supporters expected to participate, all eyes are now on the Centre’s response to the party’s latest ultimatum.
