Tragic Flood Tale: Husband Lives, Wife and Two Little Girls Killed After Car Is Washed Away
Mumbai : The devastating floods that continue to batter several parts of Maharashtra have left behind a trail of destruction, heartbreak, and unimaginable loss. While homes, livestock, and livelihoods have been washed away by the relentless floodwaters, one family’s tragic story has shaken the nation. In a heart-wrenching incident from Yavatmal district, a man survived after desperately clinging to a tree branch, while his wife and two young daughters were swept away to their deaths when their car was engulfed by raging floodwaters. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when Avinash, along with his wife Madhavi and their two daughters, was travelling from Yavatmal towards Loni in Ahilyanagar district. As the family reached the Kupti River bridge, floodwaters had already submerged the crossing.
Unaware of the strength and depth of the overflowing water, Avinash attempted to drive across the bridge. Within moments, the powerful current swept the vehicle away, leaving the family trapped inside as the floodwaters carried the car downstream. In a desperate fight for survival, Avinash managed to escape the vehicle and grabbed hold of a nearby tree branch. However, he could only watch in horror as his wife and two daughters were swept away by the raging waters before his eyes.
After receiving information about the accident, local police, along with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), launched an intensive search and rescue operation. Despite hours of efforts, the search ended in tragedy as the bodies of Madhavi and the two children were recovered late that night.
The heartbreaking incident highlights the deadly dangers of attempting to cross flooded bridges and roads during heavy rainfall. Authorities have repeatedly urged people to avoid waterlogged routes and strictly follow safety advisories, as even a few inches of fast-moving water can become life-threatening. Maharashtra has been witnessing relentless rainfall over the past several days, triggering flash floods, overflowing rivers, and widespread disruption across several districts.
Rescue teams remain on high alert as authorities continue monitoring the flood situation. The tragic loss of an entire family has once again underscored the devastating impact of nature’s fury and serves as a grim reminder of the importance of exercising extreme caution during flood conditions.
