New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met around 36 NDA Rajya Sabha MPs over breakfast and reportedly shared a series of important messages with them, including a warning to remain cautious in Delhi and particularly stay away from the “web” or influence of the Lutyens’ Zone.
According to reports, Modi told the lawmakers that Delhi can be a “dangerous place” politically and advised them to remain extremely careful about whom they meet, where they meet them and the kind of political influences they allow around themselves. His advice was reportedly aimed particularly at MPs who have recently left other political parties and joined the BJP or the NDA, with the Prime Minister urging them not to get caught up in what he described as the “illusion” or “trap” of Lutyens’ Delhi.
During the breakfast interaction, Modi also encouraged the MPs to spend more time inside Parliament and learn from the functioning of members across the political spectrum, whether from the ruling side or the Opposition. He stressed the importance of working together, maintaining parliamentary dignity and focusing on their responsibilities as public representatives.
The Prime Minister reportedly emphasized that newly elected or recently inducted MPs should remain grounded, avoid getting entangled in Delhi’s political networks and continue to focus on public service and their respective constituencies. Several prominent Rajya Sabha MPs, including Nitin Nabin, Sushmita Dev, Swati Maliwal, Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak, were among those reported to have attended the interaction.
Modi’s reported warning about Lutyens’ Delhi has since generated political discussion, particularly because the area is often associated with the country’s political establishment, influential networks and power circles.
The Prime Minister’s message, coming during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, is being viewed as an attempt to remind NDA lawmakers especially those new to the ruling alliance to remain cautious, disciplined and focused on parliamentary responsibilities rather than becoming distracted by Delhi’s political environment.
He also urged MPs to observe and learn from the working styles of other members and to uphold the dignity and traditions of Parliament while working collectively in the interest of the people.
