Randeep Surjewala holds meeting with city and district presidents and chairpersons of various cells
Ahmedabad, Gujarat : Randeep Surjewala, the newly appointed in-charge of the Gujarat Congress, arrived in Gujarat today for a one-day visit. After being welcomed by Congress leaders at the Ahmedabad airport, he held a meeting at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan with MLAs, city and district Congress presidents, and chairpersons of various cells. Instructing the leaders, he said, “Understand the issues faced by the people and farmers, and then launch agitations.”
Gujarat Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has directed the party to organize agitation programs addressing the problems faced by the public. Instructions were issued during the meeting to understand the grievances of various groups—including the youth, diamond workers, and farmers—and to launch agitations based on these issues in the near future. Discussions were also held on standing by the people and resolving their problems to win their trust ahead of the upcoming elections.
Randeep Singh Surjewala stated that the initial meeting focused on discussing the social, political, and economic situation in Gujarat. He noted that the Congress ideology and vision originated in Gujarat; the ideology of Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) and Patel (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel) had uprooted and ousted the British. Discussions have been held on how to carry forward the ideologies of Bapu and Sardar Patel as part of the movement. We will move forward based on the principles of truth, courage, organization, and agitation that Sardar Patel and Bapu instilled in the Congress. The initiative for the ‘Nav Nirman’ (rebuilding/renewal) of Gujarat will be launched in the near future.
Furthermore, Randeep Singh Surjewala stated that suggestions have been sought from everyone. Farmers are facing distress over various issues. A separate agitation involving farmers and the poor will be launched in the coming days. Why is a welfare board not being constituted for the 1.2 million diamond workers? Many diamond workers have committed suicide, yet no compensation is provided, nor is there any severance pay upon job loss. Workers are struggling due to taxation issues, and the 5% GST on fabrics has not been removed. Examinations whether for the Ayurveda University or others are not being conducted properly. Consequently, work will be undertaken on all these issues based on a new agenda for a ‘New Gujarat’.
