Sitamari, Bihar : Some battles are fought not on the battlefield, but in hospital beds, with pain, fear, and uncertainty standing in the way of a dream. For 17-year-old Gunjan Kumar from Bihar’s Sitamarhi, the journey to IIT was never an ordinary one.

A collapsed lung, a severely injured body, and over 70% vision impairment made every step towards his goal a challenge.When illness forced him away from regular JEE preparation, it seemed like his dream of entering one of India’s premier engineering institutes was slipping away. But one person refused to give up — his mother.

With determination in her heart and a pen in her hand, she became her son’s teacher, guiding him through difficult months and keeping his hopes alive.Against all odds, Gunjan transformed his struggles into success and earned a place in the Computer Science program at IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus.

Gunjan suffered a collapsed lung, severe physical injuries, and more than 70% vision impairment, forcing him to wear glasses with a power of 9.5.

His condition made it impossible to continue regular JEE coaching, threatening to end his dream of studying at one of India’s top engineering institutions. But his mother refused to let that dream fade. Picking up pen and paper, she became his teacher, helping him study at home and encouraging him through every setback.

Months of perseverance and relentless hard work paid off when Gunjan earned admission to IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus—a remarkable achievement that has inspired thousands.
