₹2.04 Lakh Crore GST Collected in September Maharashtra Leads the States

New Delhi : India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections crossed the ₹2 lakh crore mark again in September 2026, with the country recording a gross GST collection of ₹2,03,521 crore, marking a 14.7% year-on-year increase compared with ₹1,77,365 crore collected in September last year. The strong revenue performance takes the cumulative gross GST collection during April–September 2026 to ₹12,46,278 crore.

After accounting for refunds, the net GST collection stood at ₹1,76,520 crore, registering an 18.1% increase over the corresponding period last year. The state-wise figures, however, showed significant variations in growth.

Manipur recorded the highest growth rate in domestic GST collections, with revenue rising from ₹37 crore to ₹92 crore, an increase of about 145%, followed by Assam, where collections rose 88% to ₹2,415 crore, and Arunachal Pradesh, which recorded a 46% increase to ₹136 crore. In terms of the absolute domestic GST collection, Maharashtra remained the largest contributor among states, collecting ₹29,986 crore in September, up around 15% from ₹25,973 crore a year earlier.

Karnataka followed with ₹13,884 crore, up 16%, while Gujarat collected ₹12,222 crore, registering 17% growth. Uttar Pradesh recorded ₹8,882 crore, up 18%, while Delhi collected ₹6,354 crore and West Bengal ₹5,549 crore.

Telangana’s collection stood at ₹5,327 crore, also recording 18% growth. At the other end of the spectrum, several states reported year-on-year declines in domestic GST revenue, including Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Jammu and Kashmir recorded a 29% decline to ₹487 crore, Uttarakhand fell 23% to ₹1,277 crore, Himachal Pradesh declined 21% to ₹640 crore, while Tamil Nadu’s collection fell 5% to ₹10,188 crore.

Overall, the September figures show that while India’s GST revenue continued to maintain strong year-on-year growth, the pace of revenue expansion varied considerably across states.
