Independence Day Rehearsals Put Change of Guard Ceremony on Hold
New Delhi : The iconic Change of Guard Ceremony at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan will remain suspended on August 1 and August 8, 2026, as preparations for the Independence Day celebrations gather pace.
According to officials, the weekly ceremony has been cancelled due to rehearsals for the August 15 Independence Day event, which require the full deployment of ceremonial contingents.
The ceremonial display, featuring the President’s Bodyguard and the Army Guard Battalion in a meticulously coordinated handover of duties, is a major attraction for visitors to Rashtrapati Bhavan and reflects the rich traditions of India’s armed forces.
Officials said the ceremony will resume after the Independence Day celebrations conclude. The temporary suspension highlights the extensive preparations underway for one of the country’s most significant national events.
