Organizers Directed to Cooperate on Security and Maintain Discipline
New Delhi : The Delhi Police has prepared a comprehensive security blueprint for the Congress rally scheduled to take place at Ramlila Maidan this Sunday. While the ‘INDI’ alliance claims that 1 million (10 lakh) people will attend the rally, the Delhi Police’s intelligence inputs suggest an attendance of approximately 70,000.
On Saturday afternoon, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Devesh Chandra Srivastava visited Ramlila Maidan to assess the security arrangements.
The two senior officers inspected the preparations on-site and issued necessary directives to the concerned officials. The Police Commissioner instructed that close watch be kept on suspicious individuals and their activities. He emphasized maintaining heightened vigilance at entry and exit points to prevent any chaos or security lapses.
For security purposes, the Delhi Police has divided the grounds into 14 zones. Approximately 4,000 police personnel are set to be deployed for security and crowd management. Metal detectors have been installed at the entrances to Ramlila Maidan, and attendees will be permitted to enter only after undergoing security checks. Additionally, 150 extra traffic police personnel will be stationed at major intersections in light of the rally.
According to police sources, senior officers will oversee the security arrangements throughout the rally, which is scheduled to take place between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Sunday. Each zone will be placed under the charge of an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), while every two zones will be supervised by an officer of the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Additional DCP). Along with over 200 CCTV cameras, body-worn cameras will also be used to monitor the grounds and surrounding areas. Anti-riot vehicles and units equipped with surveillance gear will be deployed to handle any untoward situation.
The Delhi Police has instructed the organizers to cooperate with security arrangements. They have been asked to install high-definition CCTV cameras at strategic locations and set up a control room to monitor the footage. Details regarding invitees, volunteers, and the buses used to transport participants to the rally have also been requested.
Instructions have been issued to coordinate with the traffic police to finalize vehicle parking arrangements. Overnight stays on the grounds will not be permitted. Organizers have been advised to maintain discipline and refrain from any speeches that could potentially disrupt communal harmony.
270 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will remain in Delhi until November. In anticipation of rallies and potential spontaneous protests by various organizations, the central government has extended the deployment of 270 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in Delhi for the third time, now until November 16.
These forces were initially brought to Delhi earlier this month in light of protests. The responsibility for coordinating their deployment has been entrusted to the Delhi Police.
