Government Seeks Explanation from Tech Giant; Meta Admits ‘Error’ and Restores the Post
New Delhi : The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has reportedly summoned representatives of Meta after a Facebook post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefly removed from the social media platform. According to sources, the Centre sought an explanation from the company over the incident, describing it as a serious matter given that it involved the official account of the Prime Minister of India. The ministry is also reported to have called in Meta’s Global Head of Public Policy to clarify how the post was taken down and what safeguards are in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The controversy erupted after a post published by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook was unexpectedly removed from the platform. The removal quickly drew attention, prompting questions over whether it was the result of an automated moderation system, a technical malfunction, or a human error.
