*55-year-old Jivraj Mehta Bhavan to take modern form now*
Dr. Jivraj Mehta Bhavan (old Secretariat) located in Sector-10 of Gandhinagar is an important landmark in the administrative history of Gujarat. This government complex was built when Gandhinagar was developed as the new capital after the formation of Gujarat state and today it is about 55 years old. This complex has been named ‘Jivraj Mehta Bhavan’ in honour of the first Chief Minister of Gujarat, Dr. Jivraj Narayan Mehta. The present complex has a total of 18 blocks and approximately 208 government offices, in which various government departments, regulatory offices, boards and corporations are functioning.
As the construction has become old over time, now these 18 blocks are being demolished in phases and new modern government buildings are being constructed there. The new buildings will have modern facilities, more efficient office space and a convenient structure for employees and officials.
