Multi-Tier Security Grid Activated Across South Kashmir Ahead of Independence Day
Srinagar : Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi-l IPS on Tuesday said comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place across South Kashmir ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
Speaking to reporters, IGP Kashmir said security has been strengthened across all districts, with special focus on function venues as well as adjoining and sensitive areas to ensure peaceful and hassle-free celebrations.
Multi layered security arrangements have been put in place in all districts of South Kashmir, covering not only the venues but also the areas around them, Birdi said.
He said similar security measures would continue during the celebrations and urged people to come forward and participate in the Independence Day programmes in large numbers.
This is a celebration for the people. The police is there to facilitate and organise it. We appeal to everyone to participate in large numbers and make the celebrations a success, he said.
Asked about the recent attacks in South Kashmir the IGP said the matter is currently under investigation and declined to comment further. It is a matter of investigation. This is not the appropriate time to speak about it, he said.
