Apple could be preparing a significant change to the physical button layout of its upcoming iPhone models, with a new rumour suggesting that the company may eliminate the dedicated Action button.
According to a tipster on Chinese social media platform Weibo, Apple is reportedly considering combining the functions of the Action button and Camera Control into a single physical button on iPhones launching from the second half of 2027.
Under the rumoured design, the Camera Control button would take over the Action button’s customisable features. A single press would reportedly launch the Camera app, while a long press could activate a shortcut assigned to the Action button.
The Action button, introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro lineup, allows users to quickly access selected functions and shortcuts. If the reported change materialises, Apple could retain these capabilities while reducing the number of physical buttons on its devices.
However, the tipster has not specified which iPhone models would receive the redesigned button arrangement. The claim also remains unconfirmed by Apple.
Separately, earlier reports have suggested that Apple’s next-generation Pro iPhones could receive a major design overhaul, potentially featuring quad-curved displays.
For now, these developments remain speculative, and more details are expected to emerge as Apple’s 2027 iPhone lineup takes shape.
