Lok Sabha lasted 1 minute, Rajya Sabha 1 hour on the last day

New Delhi : The monsoon session of Parliament was adjourned indefinitely on Thursday. On the last day, the Lok Sabha proceedings lasted only 1 minute, while the Rajya Sabha lasted about 1 hour.

On Thursday, Speaker Om Birla sang Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha and then the proceedings were adjourned indefinitely. The entire cabinet including Modi-Shah and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi were also present in the Lok Sabha.

The ruling party and the opposition MPs protested in the Parliament premises today as well. In the session that began on July 20, the opposition is continuously raising the issue of police action on students during the Jantar Mantar protest and the theft in the Ram temple. While NDA MPs are protesting against the lathicharge on students in Jharkhand.

On the other hand, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of the purge that took place after his program in Haldwani, Uttarakhand in the Rajya Sabha. The MMDR Amendment Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha. After this, the proceedings were adjourned indefinitely.

About 96 hours less proceedings were held in the Lok Sabha

19 sittings of the Lok Sabha were held in the monsoon session. According to the rules of the Lok Sabha, the ordinary sitting of the House is from 11 am to 6 pm, with a one-hour lunch break from 1 pm to 2 pm. That is, there is usually about 6 hours of proceedings in a day.

Accordingly, about 114 hours of proceedings should have been held in the 19 sittings. But according to the available data, the Lok Sabha proceedings lasted only about 17 hours and 30 minutes. That is, about 96 hours and 30 minutes less proceedings were conducted compared to the normal scheduled time.

Whereas, the 2025 monsoon session lasted from 21 July to 21 August 2025. In it, 21 meetings each of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were held. Only 37 hours of work was done in the Lok Sabha.
