New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced a new team of national office bearers, seven months after Nitin Naveen was appointed as the party’s 12th national president.
It also includes former minister Smriti Irani, who has been appointed as one of the party’s eight national general secretaries. Senior party leader Ram Madhav, a former national general secretary, has been appointed as the party’s vice president.
Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been appointed as the national general secretary.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed as the treasurer, a post he held from 2010 to 2014, and Anil Baluni has been retained as the media in-charge.
In total, the party has announced eight national general secretaries, with only Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal remaining. Tawde and Bansal played key roles as election in-charges in several state elections and have been retained in view of the upcoming assembly elections, which also include the politically crucial Uttar Pradesh early next year. Bansal played a key role in West Bengal, while Tawde was in-charge of the Kerala elections and is the state in-charge of Bihar, overseeing the transition of Samrat Chaudhary to the chief ministership after Nitish Kumar resigned as chief minister.
The national general secretaries also include Harish Dwivedi, a former MP from Basti, who was recently the state in-charge of Assam and is from an upper caste; former Rajasthan state president and OBC leader Satish Punia; ST leader Gajendra Patel from Madhya Pradesh; and Sanjay Bhatia.
Prominent leaders not on the list include Arun Singh, who has been the general secretary since 2015, and Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, who was appointed general secretary in 2023 after vacating the long-held Gorakhpur assembly seat to make way for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Both Agarwal and Singh are Rajya Sabha MPs. Tarun Chugh, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, has now been made the in-charge of the electoral Punjab office.
Dushyant Gautam, a well-known Dalit leader who unsuccessfully contested the Delhi assembly elections in 2025 and was the general secretary and state in-charge of Uttarakhand since September 2020, has also been dropped.
He was embroiled in controversy in 2022 after his name was wrongly linked to the Ankita Bhandari murder case in Uttarakhand. Gautam filed a defamation suit against political parties and individuals involved, following which the Delhi High Court granted an interim order to remove all social media posts linking him to the murder case.
Bhola Singh, a three-time MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr (SC) constituency, and Kavita Patidar, a Rajya Sabha MP and OBC leader from Madhya Pradesh, have also been appointed as national secretaries, along with 14 others.
Four faces from Gujarat have been inducted into the BJP’s national team, with former Surendranagar MP Varshaben Doshi as national vice-president and former Amraiwadi MLAs Jagdish Patel and Rohan Gupta as national secretary. In addition, Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi has been given a major promotion as the president of the Rashtriya Yuva Morcha. The BJP high command has entrusted big responsibilities at the national level by placing faith in the capable leadership of Gujarat, due to which a wave of happiness is spreading throughout the state.
Former MP from Surendranagar and former Vice President of the State BJP, Varshaben Doshi, has been made the National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party will now benefit from her vast political experience and organizational skills at the national level. On the other hand, prominent leader Rohan Gupta, who recently joined the BJP after taking up the saffron party from the Congress, has been given the responsibility of National Secretary. His appointment clearly shows that his influence and activism have been appreciated in the party. Along with this, former MLA from Amraiwadi, Jagdish Patel, has also been appointed as National Secretary. Popular MP from Vadodara and President of the State Yuva Morcha, Hemang Joshi, has been given a big promotion and made the President of the National Yuva Morcha, which is a proud moment for the youth leadership.
