15-Minute Meeting After Months : Sister Noreen Niazi Meets Imran Khan in Prison

New Delhi : Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was visited by his sister Noreen Niazi and wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, following directions from the Pakistan Supreme Court.

Noreen reportedly met Imran for around 15 minutes, marking her first meeting with her brother in nearly nine months. During the meeting, the family reportedly enquired about Imran’s health and discussed arrangements for his medical treatment.

Bushra Bibi was also allowed to meet Imran and reportedly spent around 30–35 minutes with him.

The meetings came shortly after the Supreme Court directed that Imran’s family members be allowed to meet him once a week, observing that family visits are a fundamental right rather than a privilege.

Police Stop Family Members at Checkpoint

Noreen had arrived at the jail along with her sisters Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan. The three were reportedly stopped at a checkpoint while travelling towards Adiala Jail. Eventually, only Noreen was permitted to enter and meet Imran.

After the meeting, Noreen confirmed that she had met Imran but did not speak to the media, in line with the undertaking given to the court.
The Supreme Court has also sought records of Imran’s meetings with his sisters over the past three years, along with details of communications and phone calls between him and his sons.

Imran’s Long Imprisonment

Imran Khan became Pakistan’s prime minister in 2018 but was removed from office through a parliamentary no-confidence vote in 2022. He has remained behind bars since August 2023 while facing multiple legal cases.

His supporters have repeatedly alleged that the cases against him are politically motivated, while authorities have pursued proceedings related to corruption and the May 9, 2023 protests.

The latest court order and family meeting have renewed attention on Imran Khan’s prison conditions, health and legal battle as his family seeks regular access to him.
