Begging Was Her Life, But Cash Was Her Secret : 30+ Sacks of Money Found After Her Death
Mandya, Karnataka : What appeared to be the simple life of an elderly woman who survived by begging turned into a shocking discovery after her death. Hur Unnisa, a resident of the Guthalu area of Mandya district, had reportedly spent decades begging for a living. But after she passed away due to age-related illness, people who entered her home to clean and search the premises were stunned to discover more than 30 plastic sacks filled with currency notes and coins.
Hur Unnisa had reportedly been living alone for nearly two years after the death of her sister. The two sisters were unmarried and had previously lived together in a rented house. Following her sister’s death, Hur Unnisa continued living alone and reportedly depended on begging to meet her daily needs.
After her death, relatives and local residents gathered at her home. Once the last rites were completed, they began cleaning the house. That was when the astonishing discovery was made. Plastic sacks were reportedly found stacked in different corners of the house. When the sacks were opened, they contained bundles of ₹10, ₹20 and ₹50 currency notes along with large quantities of coins.
The money was then collected and counting began with the help of local residents. After several hours of counting, around ₹8–9 lakh had reportedly been counted, while the contents of more than 20 additional sacks were still awaiting counting. This means the final amount could potentially be higher, although the exact total is yet to be established.
For security reasons, the recovered cash has reportedly been kept in the custody of the local mosque committee in the Guthalu area. Local residents and community members have also informed other relatives of the deceased. Once the relatives arrive, the remaining cash is expected to be counted and a decision will be taken regarding its rightful custody.
The discovery has left residents shocked, raising questions about how the elderly woman managed to accumulate such a large amount of money while living a life of apparent hardship. What may have looked like an ordinary home of an elderly beggar turned out to hold a hidden collection of cash accumulated over many years.
