Former Pakistan PM’s Family Alleges Deteriorating Health, Denied Medical Care and Restricted Family Access

New Delhi : Serious concerns have been raised over the health of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned in Pakistan. His sons, Sulaiman Khan and Kasim Khan, have expressed fears for their father’s life, alleging that his health has been deteriorating while he remains behind bars.

During an online press conference, Imran Khan’s sons accused the Pakistan government of failing to fully comply with directions concerning his medical treatment and access to family members.

According to the allegations made by his family, Pakistan’s Supreme Court had directed that Imran Khan receive treatment at a private hospital and be allowed regular meetings with his family. However, his sons claim that these directions have not been properly implemented.

The family has also raised concerns over the conditions in which the former prime minister is allegedly being held.

Imran Khan’s lawyer, Jared Genser, has described the alleged prison conditions as a form of “slow killing.” His legal team claims that the 73-year-old former premier has been kept in an isolated cell measuring approximately 1.8 metres by 2.4 metres, where he allegedly spends around 23 hours a day without natural light.

His supporters and family have also raised concerns about his reported eye problems and other health issues.

The family alleges that authorities were directed to take Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical evaluation and treatment. They further claim that instead of taking him there openly, authorities allegedly sent a decoy convoy and took him to a government hospital, later stating that he was in stable condition.
However, Imran Khan’s family and legal representatives have rejected the government’s claims about his health and treatment.

Pakistan authorities have denied allegations that Imran Khan is being kept in solitary confinement or that his family has been completely prevented from meeting him.

The government has maintained that, following court directions, meetings with his wife Bushra Bibi and his sister were permitted. However, his sons say they have been unable to travel to Pakistan to meet their father. They claim that they last saw him in November 2022.

The allegations have intensified concerns over Imran Khan’s treatment in prison and sparked renewed questions about his medical care, living conditions and access to family members. With his sons publicly expressing fears for his life, the spotlight is once again firmly on the former Pakistan prime minister’s health and prison conditions.
