New Delhi : Novak Djokovic scripts another chapter in tennis history. The Serbian legend became the winningest men’s singles player at Wimbledon after clinching his 106th singles victory, surpassing Roger Federer’s long-standing record and booking a place in the quarter-finals.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion battled past determined qualifier Roman Safiullin 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on Centre Court, extending his incredible run to a ninth consecutive Wimbledon quarter-final and his 17th last-eight appearance at the All England Club.
Despite not being at his dominant best, Djokovic relied on his experience and clinical serving to outlast Safiullin in a hard-fought four-set encounter. The win takes the Serbian to 106 Wimbledon singles victories, moving him ahead of Roger Federer for the most men’s singles wins in the tournament’s history. Only Martina Navratilova, with 120 singles wins, remains ahead overall.
Reflecting on the match, Djokovic praised Safiullin’s aggressive approach and admitted he had to alter his tactics before his first serve helped him seize control.
Next up, the Serbian great will face either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the quarter-finals. A victory there could set up a blockbuster showdown with defending champion and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
