Family Tragedy in Manipur : Woman and Husband Killed, 6-Year-Old Son Injured
Imphal,Manipur : Fresh violence has once again raised tensions in Manipur, with four members of the Kuki community reportedly killed within a span of 24 hours in separate incidents in Tamenglong and Noney districts. The violence has also left a six-year-old child injured, adding to concerns over the safety of civilians amid continuing tensions in the state. According to reports, two separate attacks took place in Toleng village under Kaimai police station and Longpi village under Nungba police station.
In Toleng, suspected militants allegedly attacked a house, killing a woman at the spot. Her husband and their six-year-old son were also hit by gunfire and sustained serious injuries. The injured father and child were reportedly being shifted to Silchar in Assam for advanced medical treatment when the father succumbed to his injuries on the way. The six-year-old child survived the attack and is undergoing treatment.
In another incident in Longpi village, armed attackers allegedly opened fire, killing two people. All four deceased victims in the two incidents are reportedly members of the Kuki community, while authorities are examining the circumstances and possible motives behind the attacks.
Security forces rushed to the affected areas after receiving information about the violence and took steps to bring the situation under control. The incidents have once again highlighted the fragile security situation in parts of Manipur, where communities continue to remain vulnerable to sporadic violence.
Authorities are also examining allegations of involvement by suspected Naga insurgent groups, including NSCN and ZUF, although the exact circumstances and responsibility for the attacks are still under investigation. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the violence and appealed to people to maintain peace and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.
