Samba, J & K : A suspicious pigeon wearing a ring bearing a number on its leg was found in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district near the International Border on Monday, prompting security agencies to examine the bird.

According to officials, some locals noticed the pigeon in suspicious circumstances and informed the police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. The bird was subsequently taken into custody for examination.

Officials said a ring carrying a suspicious number was found tied to the pigeon’s leg, raising concerns about the possibility of its cross-border use. Security agencies have been alerted and the bird has been handed over for detailed examination to ascertain its origin and the purpose of the numbered ring.

Police and other security agencies are verifying whether the pigeon was used for any espionage or smuggling-related activity. Similar incidents involving birds carrying rings or other markings have been reported in border areas in the past, prompting authorities to remain vigilant.

The authorities are examining the markings on the ring and gathering further information to determine whether the bird has any connection with activities across the International Border.

Further investigation is underway, and officials said more details will emerge after the examination is completed.
