Abhishek Banerjee Posts Eye Photo From US, Says “I’m Not Finished Yet”

Kolkata: A cryptic Instagram post by Trinamool Congress MP and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has triggered fresh political discussion in West Bengal, with the Diamond Harbour MP sharing a close-up photograph of his eye while undergoing treatment in the United States. In the post, Banerjee wrote that his wounds would tell the story of what he was going through and that his eyes would show that he was “not finished yet.” He did not name any individual or directly connect the message to any political party, case or ongoing controversy, but the timing of the post has attracted attention because it comes amid several legal proceedings involving him.

Banerjee is currently in the US for eye treatment after the Supreme Court on August 10 allowed him to travel abroad for three weeks, setting aside a Calcutta High Court order that had restricted his foreign travel. The Supreme Court’s order required him to provide details including his itinerary, place of residence, doctors or hospitals involved in the treatment and his return schedule. The issue of his eye treatment has been part of the court proceedings for several months, with the Calcutta High Court previously considering whether he should receive treatment in India and directing that his medical condition be assessed by a medical board. Court records also show that Banerjee travelled abroad on September 3 and was expected to return to India on September 22, in accordance with the permission granted by the Supreme Court.

At the same time, Banerjee continues to face investigations in several criminal cases. In three FIRs linked to complaints concerning alleged irregularities and medical negligence at Sebaashray health camps, the Calcutta High Court has directed that no coercive action be taken against him until November 30, while making clear that the investigations can continue.

The court has also directed Banerjee to cooperate with the investigations and comply with notices issued by the authorities. The High Court’s order therefore does not end the investigations or determine the merits of the allegations; it provides interim protection from coercive action while the legal proceedings continue. Reports have also highlighted the court’s concern over the repeated complaints and FIRs involving Banerjee, with Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya commenting on the nature and number of complaints filed against him.

Meanwhile, another recent legal development involved Banerjee’s Camac Street office, where the Calcutta High Court intervened over a fire-safety-related evacuation notice issued by the West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Department. The court directed the department to issue a fresh notice to the Trinamool Congress as the occupant and conduct a fresh inspection, rather than immediately enforcing the earlier evacuation direction.

Against this backdrop, Banerjee’s latest Instagram message has become a subject of political discussion, particularly because of its emotional wording and the photograph showing his eye. However, since he did not identify anyone or explicitly state what the message referred to, any connection between the post and a specific political or legal development remains an interpretation rather than something established by the post itself.

For now, the TMC leader remains in the United States for medical treatment, while the legal proceedings and investigations involving him continue in West Bengal. His “I’m not finished yet” message has added another layer of public attention to an already closely watched period in his political and legal affairs.
