Raigad,Maharashtra: A sudden flash flood triggered by heavy rainfall swept away several empty HPCL LPG cylinders from the HPCL bottling plant at Chavane village in Khalapur taluka on Wednesday.According to reports, the empty cylinders had been transported to the plant for processing and refilling.
Following intense rainfall in the surrounding hill areas, nearby streams and nullahs overflowed, sending a massive surge of floodwater into the HPCL premises.Due to heavy rainfall, a massive flood occurred at HPCL’s Patalganga LPG plant in Maharashtra, and nearly 3,000 LPG cylinders were swept into the nearby river.
The concerned officials appealed to the people to avoid touching, retrieving, and transporting the floating cylinders.As these cylinders might have suffered damage in the flood and pose a risk of gas leakage, they could burst.
If any of the LPG cylinders are seen in any river, stream, or surrounding areas, people should report to the nearest police station, fire department, or district administration, officials added.
The concerned authorities advised the people to approach trained professional emergency responders for the safe handling of the gas cylinders.
Firefighting teams were deployed to the area to observe and recover cylinders. Officials added that they were working to search for and recover missing cylinders and to safeguard the general public.
