Bengaluru : What was meant to be a memorable journey with friends ended in an unimaginable tragedy on the roads of Karnataka. In a heartbreaking accident that has left several families shattered, a speeding truck rammed head-on into a cruiser vehicle in Uttara Kannada district, killing seven young men on the spot and leaving two others battling for their lives.

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of seven people and left two others critically injured after a speeding truck collided head-on with a cruiser vehicle in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district. The devastating crash, which occurred near Arabail Ghat in Yellapur taluk, has sent shockwaves across the region, with the impact reducing the passenger vehicle to a mangled heap of metal. According to police, the cruiser was carrying nine passengers who were travelling from Dharwad to Ankola after setting out on a trip to Dharmasthala and Chikkamagaluru late Wednesday night.

As the vehicle reached the Balagar stretch of the Arabail Ghat, it reportedly collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction at high speed.The impact of the collision was so severe that the cruiser was completely crushed, leaving several passengers trapped inside. Seven occupants died on the spot, while the remaining two suffered critical injuries.

Local residents and police personnel rushed to the scene, rescued the injured from the wreckage, and shifted them to a nearby hospital, where they remain under intensive medical care. Authorities have sent the bodies of the deceased to the Yellapur Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The victims were reportedly young men working part-time as delivery executives for the food delivery platform Swiggy, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for their families and colleagues.

Police have registered a case at the Yellapur Police Station and launched an investigation into the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding, reckless driving by the truck driver, or loss of control on the ghat road may have led to the fatal collision.

Investigators are examining all possible angles to determine the exact cause of the crash. The accident once again highlights the dangers of driving on hilly roads, where sharp curves, steep gradients, and high speeds can quickly turn a journey into a tragedy.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution while travelling through ghat sections, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
