PM Modi highlights the 2016 operation as a defining moment in India’s counter-terrorism strategy and reiterates a firm stance against cross-border terrorism.
New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday recalled the Indian Army’s 2016 surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC), describing the operation as a significant moment in India’s counter-terrorism approach.
Speaking during the 138th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Modi noted that the September 28–29 operation will complete a decade this year. The strikes were carried out following the Uri terror attack in which 18 Army personnel were killed.
Modi said the operation demonstrated India’s willingness to respond to cross-border terrorism and highlighted it as an important chapter in the country’s security policy.
He also referred to subsequent military actions, including the 2019 Balakot airstrikes and Operation Sindoor, presenting them as part of India’s evolving response to terrorism. The Prime Minister reiterated that India maintains a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
The remarks came ahead of the 10th anniversary of the 2016 operation, bringing renewed focus on the security measures and counter-terrorism actions undertaken by India over the past decade.
