New Delhi : In a significant development in the fight against cross-border drug trafficking, alleged narco trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh has been deported from Turkey and brought back to India, according to a government statement.

The government said Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship using the alleged fake identity of “Navab Virk” and continued to facilitate the smuggling of heroin and methamphetamine into India from Afghanistan.

According to the statement, Indian agencies tracked down the accused and established his alleged identity despite his use of a different identity abroad.

Following coordination with the Turkish authorities, his deportation was secured and he was brought back to India.

Singh has now been taken into custody and lodged in jail in connection with cases related to alleged drug trafficking and other offences, the statement said.

The development has been described by the government as an important success for Indian enforcement and security agencies in their efforts to dismantle international narcotics networks operating across borders.

The government has reiterated its stated commitment to dismantling narco cartels and strengthening action against drug trafficking, with the goal of eliminating such networks by December 2029.
