Srinagar : Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Sunday said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar would not resign amid demands from opposition parties for his resignation.

Addressing reporters in Srinagar during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Athawale said the position taken by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition parties on the issue was against the Constitution.

The minister’s remarks come amid an ongoing political confrontation between the opposition and the Election Commission of India over its functioning.
