New Delhi : Following protests in Connaught Place and other parts of Delhi on Friday, the Delhi Police has taken significant action by registering multiple FIRs. The police had denied permission for the party’s ‘Lahara Do Tiranga’ (Hoist the Tricolour) march in Connaught Place and had imposed Section 163 in several areas; the FIRs have been registered for the violation of these orders. The police stated that despite public announcements, crowds had gathered in and around Connaught Place. Earlier on Friday, hundreds of supporters of the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP) and members of various student organizations carrying the national tricolour and chanting ‘Jai Hind’ staged demonstrations at several locations across Central Delhi.

Approximately 150 protesters, including CJP founder Abhijit Deepke and All India Students Association (AISA) President Neha Bora, were taken into custody by the Delhi Police. The opposition has sharply criticized these detentions, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government has characterized the protests as an attempt to incite ‘anarchy’ by exploiting the youth and to bring about a change in power.

Students, along with members of AISA and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), held a demonstration at Mandi House. They demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and the repeal of the Act governing the appointment of Election Commissioners. Left-wing leaders, including Members of Parliament John Brittas and Santosh Kumar, participated in the march alongside the ‘Democratic Youth Federation of India’ (DYFI).

Minor scuffles broke out between police personnel and protesters during efforts to disperse the crowd. Journalists and independent YouTube reporters were also present at the scene to cover the demonstrations. During this time, some independent YouTube journalists were jostled and heckled.

The Delhi Police have maintained heavy security arrangements today as well; there is a strong security presence and barricading outside the Mandir Marg police station. Abhijit Dipke will soon be produced before the Special Executive Magistrate here.
