New Delhi : Confrontations between Indian and Chinese troops continue at multiple locations along the Arunachal Pradesh border, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujeet Kapur said, confirming the persistence of tensions along the frontier.
Speaking at the annual Himveer Samman Samaroh in Alwar, Rajasthan, on Thursday, Kapur said face-offs had occurred at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh in recent days and that the situation remained ongoing. He also highlighted the role of newly raised Shaurya commandos in dealing with the confrontations.
The ITBP chief said the force was developing a specialised high altitude mountain warfare capability, with a full battalion of Shaurya commandos planned to strengthen its operational preparedness along the China border.
He emphasised that high altitude operations remained a key strength of the force.
Kapur stressed that modern warfare required a shift towards advanced technologies, particularly drones and counter drone systems.
The ITBP has allocated a substantial portion of its modernisation funds to drone technology, established drone platoons in border guarding battalions and begun training drone pilots.
Highlighting the importance of defensive infrastructure, Kapur said the force had decided to develop underground shelters along the China border over the next three years. Pilot projects are underway to establish permanent underground structures with adequate ventilation, drainage and other essential facilities, with the aim of providing greater protection to personnel during potential conflict situations.
The developments come despite a series of high level engagements between India and China since July, including border consultations and military-level talks. Both countries have continued diplomatic and military communication even as tensions persist at certain locations along the frontier.
