Indian Student Missing in Finland Found Dead Near Helsinki, Family Seeks Investigation
New Delhi : An 18-year-old Indian student from Hyderabad, who had been missing in Finland for over two months, has been found dead in the waters off Helsinki, prompting his family to seek a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Manideep Reddy, a first-year Bachelor’s student in Software and Systems Engineering at LUT University, was last seen on May 5 after travelling from Lahti to Helsinki. CCTV footage reportedly captured him at Helsinki Central Railway Station and later at a supermarket in the Kruunuvuorenranta area before he disappeared.
His body was recovered from the sea near Helsinki on July 9, with personal belongings found nearby helping Finnish authorities confirm his identity.
Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said its preliminary assessment found no immediate signs of criminal activity, though the exact cause of death is yet to be determined. The investigation remains ongoing.
Manideep’s family, however, has expressed doubts over the initial findings, describing the circumstances as suspicious and urging authorities to conduct a comprehensive probe to uncover what happened.
The case continues to be investigated by Finnish authorities.
