Rohtak, Haryana : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday organised a Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) march in Rohtak, Haryana, under the leadership of BJP National President Nitin Nabin, with the party launching a sharp attack on the Congress over its stand on democratic institutions and electoral mandates.
Addressing the gathering during the programme, Nabin accused the Congress of adopting double standards on democracy, alleging that the party accepts electoral outcomes when it wins but questions the democratic process after facing defeat.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Nabin questioned the opposition party’s confidence in the country’s 1.4 billion people and made remarks about alleged infiltrators, asking whom the Congress trusted if not the people of the country.
Nabin cited Congress victories in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, saying the party describes democracy as victorious when it secures electoral success. However, he alleged that the same party raises questions about democracy after losing elections in Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
“What kind of double standard is this?” Nabin asked, questioning the Congress leadership’s approach towards the people’s mandate.
He further alleged that the Congress wanted to run the country’s democracy according to the wishes of the Gandhi family, asserting that India’s democratic system must function in accordance with the Constitution and not the interests of any political family.
Reaffirming the BJP’s position, Nabin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had always respected the Constitution and upheld the democratic values of the country.
The march and Nabin’s remarks reflect the BJP’s continued political offensive against the Congress, with democracy, electoral mandates and the functioning of democratic institutions remaining central to the political debate between the two parties.
