New Delh i: India will observe a one-day national mourning on Monday, July 13, following the demise of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir and Father Amir of the State of Qatar, who passed away at the age of 74.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that the Government of India has declared the national mourning as a mark of respect for the late Qatari leader, acknowledging his significant contribution to strengthening India-Qatar ties over the years.
According to the official statement, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the country on all government buildings where it is regularly displayed. Additionally, no official entertainment programmes will be held on July 13 as a tribute to the departed leader.
The MEA also informed that Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who holds the Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs portfolios, is expected to travel to Qatar shortly to convey condolences on behalf of the Government of India to the leadership of the Gulf nation.
Earlier, the Amiri Diwan of the State of Qatar announced the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at the age of 74. Widely regarded as a transformational leader, he played a pivotal role in shaping modern Qatar and elevating its global standing.
India’s decision to observe national mourning reflects the close and enduring diplomatic relationship shared between New Delhi and Doha, while also honouring the legacy of a leader who left a lasting impact on the region.
