New Delhi : India has strengthened its position on the global renewable energy map with the successful conclusion of the four-day Bharat Renewable Energy (BRE) Summit & Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 2, the mega event brought together an impressive gathering of global policymakers, industry leaders, investors, researchers and clean energy innovators. More than 75,000 visitors, 400 exhibitors and 627 speakers participated in 113 sessions, with representatives from 135 countries attending the summit.

The international gathering included 32 ministers from foreign countries, six chief ministers and 10 state energy ministers. The simultaneous hosting of three major renewable energy sector events further underlined the scale and significance of the summit.

Discussions throughout the event focused on accelerating investments, strengthening international partnerships and developing technologies to support India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity. The estimated investment requirement stands at around USD 220 billion, with global financial institutions and long-term investors expressing confidence in the sector’s growth potential.

A major development came with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) signing a memorandum of understanding with Rotterdam-based Power2X to facilitate an initial supply of 3 lakh tonnes of green methanol annually for international markets. The agreement marks another step in India’s efforts to emerge as a significant player in the global green hydrogen and green fuels ecosystem.

The International Solar Alliance’s Ninth Assembly also highlighted India’s growing engagement with the Global South. A proposed USD 200 million Africa Solar Facility was announced to strengthen solar energy deployment and financing across African countries, alongside initiatives aimed at supporting Small Island Developing States.

Innovation and entrepreneurship remained important attractions, with more than 300 startups participating in the RE Hackathon and RE GEN Challenge. Around 70 startup pods showcased emerging technologies, including advanced perovskite solar cells, long-duration energy storage solutions and artificial intelligence-powered grid forecasting systems.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi highlighted how India’s clean energy transition is reshaping the country’s development model. With renewable sources accounting for more than a quarter of annual electricity consumption in the previous financial year, the focus is increasingly shifting towards building a flexible and integrated power grid capable of meeting rising demand from industries, electric mobility and data centres.

The summit also saw the unveiling of 37 reports, assessments and digital platforms, including the Ease of Doing Solar framework and a Skilling Blueprint for the top 100 renewable energy districts.

From attracting international investments to advancing green technologies and strengthening cross-border cooperation, BRE Summit & Expo 2026 provided a major platform for shaping the future of clean energy.

The event concluded with a strong message: India’s renewable energy transition is no longer just a national priority but an increasingly important part of the global clean energy movement.
