New Delhi : India’s urban transportation infrastructure has witnessed a remarkable transformation over the past decade, with the country’s metro rail network expanding rapidly across major cities.
Highlighting this significant growth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointed out that India’s operational metro network has increased from just 248 kilometres across five cities in 2014 to nearly 1,200 kilometres covering 26 cities today.
The expansion marks a major milestone in the country’s urban mobility journey, bringing modern, faster and more efficient public transportation within reach of millions of people.
Emphasising the growing dependence on metro services, the Prime Minister noted that more than one crore commuters travel through the metro network every day.
Beyond improving connectivity, the expanding network is helping ease traffic congestion, reduce commuting time and enhance overall urban productivity. It is also allowing people to spend more valuable time with their families while creating fresh opportunities for economic growth and development.
From a limited urban transit system to one of the world’s rapidly expanding metro networks, India’s metro revolution reflects a decade of significant infrastructure development and changing mobility patterns.
