New Delhi : President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday left for a five-day visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania, marking a significant step in India’s outreach to Central and Eastern Europe. The tour aims to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology, agriculture, healthcare, education and cultural exchanges.
The visit begins in Moldova, where President Murmu will become the first Indian Head of State to visit the country. She is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Maia Sandu, meet senior leaders, address the India-Moldova Business Forum and interact with the Indian diaspora.
In North Macedonia, she will hold discussions with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and other top officials. Her engagements also include an address to the country’s Parliament and participation in the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.
The final leg of the tour takes her to Romania, marking the first visit by an Indian President in more than 30 years. President Murmu will meet Romanian President Nicusor Dan, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and parliamentary leaders, besides addressing the India-Romania Business Forum and interacting with the Indian community.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit underscores India’s expanding engagement with Central and Eastern Europe and aligns with its broader strategic partnership with the European Union. The three countries had also expressed solidarity with India by condemning the Pahalgam terror attack, reaffirming their shared commitment to combating global terrorism.
