Market on Fire ! Sensex Crosses 81,000 as Nifty Reclaims 25,000

New Delhi : Indian stock markets witnessed an extraordinary festive-season rally on Friday, November 6, 2026, as benchmark indices extended their winning streak to seven consecutive sessions, delivering their strongest pre-Diwali seven-day performance in 35 years.

The BSE Sensex surged 1,483.28 points, or 2.17%, to close at 81,028.02, while the NSE Nifty 50 climbed 493.75 points, or 2.01%, to settle at 25,030.35, comfortably reclaiming the crucial 25,000 mark.

The rally has made history, marking the strongest seven-session pre-Diwali advance since 1991 and the biggest such festive run since the introduction of NSE Muhurat trading in 1992.

The scale of the recovery was remarkable. Over the past seven trading sessions, the Sensex has gained approximately 7,782 points, translating into a 10.6% rise, while the Nifty has advanced 2,331 points, or 10.3%.

What Is Fueling the Market Frenzy ?

A combination of domestic optimism, foreign capital inflows and improving global economic signals has strengthened investor confidence.

Foreign Investors Return in Force

Foreign institutional investors have emerged as major contributors to the rally. FIIs reportedly pumped ₹18,661 crore into Indian equities across five of the last six trading sessions.

Private banking stocks attracted significant buying interest, reflecting renewed confidence in India’s financial sector and the broader market outlook.

US Political Developments and Falling Oil Prices

The outcome of the U.S. midterm elections triggered fresh optimism among global investors over a possible diplomatic breakthrough in the West Asia conflict.

Brent crude prices slipped below $95 per barrel, offering relief to an oil-import-dependent economy like India. Meanwhile, U.S. 10-year Treasury yields eased to around 4.8%, improving the relative attractiveness of emerging-market equities.

Budget Tax Expectations Add to Optimism

Speculation that the Finance Ministry could revisit long-term and short-term capital gains tax structures in the Union Budget for February 2027 also contributed to positive sentiment.

However, these remain market expectations and unconfirmed reports rather than announced policy decisions.

Banking Stocks Power the Rally; Capital Goods Face a Rout

The market’s impressive headline performance concealed significant differences across sectors.

Banking and Financial Stocks Lead

Heavyweight private lenders, including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Yes Bank, emerged among the key contributors to the benchmark rally.

Cholamandalam Financial Holdings also attracted attention, jumping 7.03% to ₹1,512 after reporting a 16.9% year-on-year increase in second-quarter net profit.

Hindalco Gains on Strong Earnings

Hindalco Industries advanced following a reported 59% year-on-year increase in consolidated Q2FY27 net profit to ₹7,533 crore, strengthening sentiment around the metal sector.

Capital Goods Stocks Buck the Trend

Not every sector participated in the festive rally. The BSE Capital Goods Index plunged nearly 4%, as disappointing quarterly earnings triggered sharp selling in AI-linked industrial and infrastructure suppliers.

Thermax, Apar Industries and Astral were among the notable losers, with some stocks declining as much as 20%.

Mid-Caps and Small-Caps Remain Under Pressure

The broader market failed to match the enthusiasm seen in benchmark indices. The Nifty Midcap 100 slipped 0.02%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 declined 0.82%, highlighting continued caution among investors.

Muhurat Trading: Investors Look Towards Samvat 2083

With Diwali celebrations approaching, market attention is now shifting towards the special one-hour Muhurat Trading session scheduled for Sunday, November 8, 2026.

After an extraordinary seven-session advance, investors will be watching whether the positive momentum carries into Samvat 2083, the beginning of the new Hindu financial year.

The historic rally has delivered a major festive boost to Dalal Street. However, the weakness in mid-cap, small-cap and capital goods stocks suggests that investors are still choosing their bets carefully.
