New Delhi : BJP National President Naveen held the first meeting of his new team on Saturday, August 22, 2026. During this meeting, a 10-point resolution regarding ‘Vande Mataram’ was approved. Nitin Nabin stated in a post on X that a significant resolution had been passed concerning the respect for this song and the preservation of its historical legacy.

He mentioned that the meeting saw strong condemnation and opposition to the Congress party’s stance as reflected in its programs of singing only the first two stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’. The BJP regards ‘Vande Mataram’ as India’s National Song, a symbol of devotion to ‘Bharat Mata’ (Mother India), a mantra of the freedom struggle, and an eternal symbol of India’s national consciousness. Consequently, the party has adopted a 10-point resolution regarding it.

BJP’s 10-Point Resolution on ‘Vande Mataram’

  • The BJP strongly condemns and opposes the decision taken by the Congress Working Committee on August 19, 2026, which reiterated the 1937 resolution limiting ‘Vande Mataram’ to only its first two stanzas.
  • While upholding the respect, dignity, heritage, and national character of the entire ‘Vande Mataram’ song, the BJP recognizes it as India’s National Song, an eternal symbol of national consciousness, and a glorious legacy of the freedom struggle.
  • The party stands firm on the position consistent with the Constituent Assembly’s declaration of 1950 and the stance taken by Parliament in 2026 that ‘Vande Mataram’ deserves the same legal protection as ‘Jana Gana Mana’.
  • The party opposes any attempt to make the National Song a victim of communal pressure, political appeasement, or narrow vote-bank politics.
  • The party wishes to remind the Congress that no resolution passed by its Working Committee can supersede India’s constitutional institutions or the laws enacted by Parliament. The political agreement of 1937 cannot be placed above the constitutional decision of 1950 and the law enacted by Parliament in 2026.
  • The historical and political context in which the verses of ‘Vande Mataram’ were curtailed including the objections raised by the Muslim League and the subsequent politics of escalating communal and separatist demands will be brought to the public’s attention.
  • Mahatma Gandhi’s historic statement, in which he described ‘Vande Mataram’ as an ‘anti-imperialist slogan’ embodying the ‘purest national sentiment,’ will be conveyed to every individual.
  • A nationwide campaign will be launched through BJP workers to take the history, meaning, national significance, and glorious legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’ to every corner of India.
  • A special awareness campaign will be conducted among the youth to ensure that the full national song comprising six verses and its history are not forgotten, and so that future generations understand how deeply the memories of India’s freedom, struggle, sacrifice, and national awakening are intertwined with ‘Vande Mataram.’
  • There will be no compromise whatsoever regarding the honor and legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’ for the sake of political gain or appeasement.

The BJP leader stated that this is not merely an issue concerning a political party; it is a matter of India’s honor and the legacy of the countless patriots who sacrificed everything for the nation’s freedom. The BJP appeals to the citizens to cherish this legacy forever and not reduce it to the calculations of contemporary vote-bank politics.

He remarked that the words of ‘Vande Mataram’ were once so powerful that an empire trembled in fear of them. Those words ignited a spirit of resistance, which is why the British attempted to suppress them. For generations, Indians have embraced these lines as a mantra of freedom, sacrifice, and national pride. Nitin Nabin stated that ‘Vande Mataram’ was the triumphant cry of India’s independence in 1947. Under PM Modi’s leadership, the grand proclamation of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) in 2047 will also be ‘Vande Mataram’.
