New Delhi : Delhi’s Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) Court on Wednesday remanded Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to five days of judicial custody in connection with an alleged unauthorised entry into Jantar Mantar a day after the site was de-notified as a designated protest venue.
Delhi Police registered an FIR against the two leaders and others on Tuesday after the group allegedly scaled locked gates and police barricades to enter the premises. The protesters were reportedly carrying the Indian national flag and raising slogans before security personnel intercepted them.
The FIR reportedly includes charges related to unlawful assembly and disobedience of an order promulgated by a public servant.
Das and Ranka were produced before the SEM Court on Wednesday, which remanded them to judicial custody for five days.
Meanwhile, another CJP leader, Ajinkya Shinde, was released on a personal bond.
The development follows Delhi Police’s decision to de-notify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site and identify alternative venues for demonstrations, including Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi.
