Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Barely recovering from the recent spell of severe weather, Odisha may once again face a fresh rain threat. A low-pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area, raising the possibility of another spell of rain along the eastern coast. According to the weather outlook provided, the system is likely to intensify into a depression within the next 6–12 hours and move west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast by the evening of November 2. Its movement could trigger rainfall and rough sea conditions along the Andhra coast and adjoining parts of southern Odisha.
However, the forecast remains mixed regarding the system’s impact on Odisha. Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director of the Centre for Climate and Environment at SOA University, indicated that most parts of the state are likely to experience mainly dry weather, with partly cloudy skies in some areas. He suggested that the system could move towards southern Andhra Pradesh or northern Tamil Nadu, limiting its impact on Odisha, although isolated light rainfall may occur around November 2 and 3.
Meanwhile, coastal areas of Odisha could experience wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, with gusts reaching 55 kmph between November 1 and 3. Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara may experience winds of 20–35 kmph, with gusts up to 45 kmph. Ganjam and Gajapati could receive light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy showers on November 1 and 2. Koraput, Rayagada and Malkangiri may also witness spells of rain, including isolated heavy showers, while Kandhamal could receive scattered moderate rainfall.
Khordha and Cuttack may experience cloudy skies with light rain. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea during the forecast period as sea conditions are expected to remain rough. With another weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal, coastal and southern Odisha districts are being urged to remain alert and follow official weather advisories.
