New Delhi : Acting on a complaint filed by Sahil Lochav regarding the alleged use of a pellet gun during a protest at Jantar Mantar, the Delhi Police registered an FIR against unknown persons on Friday. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had visited the Sansad Marg police station earlier that day to demand the registration of an FIR.
Prior to this, Rahul Gandhi met with police officials to demand action in the matter. He alleged that some Delhi Police personnel used a pellet gun during a protest at Jantar Mantar, injuring several students. He had demanded that an FIR be registered against the concerned police personnel.
When the police did not immediately register an FIR, Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the DCP’s office. He stated that he would remain at the police station until the FIR regarding the pellet gun incident was registered.
During the sit-in, Rahul Gandhi accused the Delhi Police of alleged brutality against the youth. Congress workers were also present with him. Security was stepped up and barricades were erected around the police station. Vehicular movement towards the Sansad Marg police station from the Connaught Place side was also halted.
Now that the FIR has been registered against unknown persons based on Sahil Lochav’s complaint, the police will investigate the matter. The police’s subsequent actions—specifically regarding the legal sections invoked in the FIR and the findings of the investigation—will be crucial.
