Security checks tightened at railway stations, parcel services closed at five major stations
New Delhi : Security arrangements have been tightened in Delhi in view of the Independence Day 2026 celebrations. In view of the main program to be held at Red Fort on August 15 and the Prime Minister’s address, police security has been increased in sensitive areas of the city. Intensive surveillance is being maintained in markets, railway stations and crowded areas. While vehicle checks on roads have also been intensified. Passengers coming to and going from Delhi between August 13 and 16 have been advised to plan their travel carefully.
Police security has been increased in key areas and sensitive places of Delhi in view of the Independence Day celebrations. Intensive vehicle checks are being carried out on the city roads and the police are keeping a close watch on suspicious vehicles and persons. Security and surveillance have also been increased in markets, railway stations and crowded areas. During the security check, documents of vehicles as well as identity proof of people are being checked. The police have appealed to the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.
Northern Railway has increased security checks at railway stations in Delhi region from August 13 to 16. Passengers have been asked to reach the station earlier than usual and cooperate with security personnel. For travel-related assistance, the Rail Mad helpline 139 can be contacted. The police are also keeping a close watch on suspicious persons and vehicles. During the security check, the identity documents of passengers and documents of vehicles may be checked.
Keeping in view the security, booking, loading and unloading of commercial parcels will remain closed at New Delhi, Delhi Junction i.e. Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal and Delhi Sarai Rohilla stations from 12 to 15 August. Parcels coming from other places will also not be allowed to be unloaded at these stations. This ban will be applicable on SLR, parcel vans and demand parcel vans. Parcel services will resume from 16 August. However, passengers will be allowed to carry their personal belongings in the train.
Rail traffic between Old Delhi and Delhi Shahdara will be completely closed from 6 am to 8:30 am on 15 August. Since the railway track passes near the Red Fort, there will be a rail block of two and a half hours during the main ceremony and the Prime Minister’s address. During this time, some EMU and local trains may be cancelled, while some long-distance express trains will be run on alternative routes or will be stopped at stations outside Delhi city. No trains will be allowed to stop at Tilak Bridge, Bhairon Bridge and Yamuna Bridge during the ceremony. Therefore, passengers are advised to check the updated schedule and status of their trains before leaving home.
