SC Hearing Turns Emotional as Rajpal Yadav Speaks About Losses and Legal Troubles
New Delhi : Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav became emotional during a Supreme Court hearing in a cheque-bounce case, telling the court that after entertaining audiences for years, he now feels that he has “become a drama” himself. Appearing before the Supreme Court on Wednesday, Yadav submitted a demand draft of ₹1.15 crore towards repayment and sought time until October 13 to deposit the remaining ₹85 lakh. During the hearing, the actor opened up about the financial difficulties he claimed to have faced over the years, telling the court that he had suffered substantial losses connected with a film project and the prolonged legal proceedings.
According to his submissions, he suffered a loss of around ₹17 crore on one film, while the disputes and related circumstances over the past 13 years had resulted in losses of nearly ₹22 crore, as claimed by him. Yadav said that film production had remained stalled for years and that the legal troubles had affected his professional career, but added that he has now started receiving work again and intends to clear his outstanding dues. The emotional moment came when the actor said that he had spent years entertaining people but had now himself become part of a “drama” because of the circumstances surrounding the case. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant also made light-hearted remarks during the proceedings, encouraging the actor to make good films and continue entertaining audiences, while making a humorous reference to money seemingly becoming “missing” like the title of a film.
The matter is linked to a cheque-bounce dispute involving Murali Projects Private Limited, in which the Delhi High Court had earlier awarded Yadav separate three-month jail terms in the concerned cases. The Supreme Court had previously expressed displeasure over the delay in depositing the required amount. With ₹1.15 crore now submitted, the court has allowed Yadav additional time to arrange and deposit the remaining ₹85 lakh, with the next deadline set for October 13. The latest development gives the actor an opportunity to fulfil the payment obligation while the legal proceedings continue.
