On a dramatic day of football, Lionel Messi inspired Argentina to come from two goals down to beat Egypt 3-2 as they entered the quarterfinals with a goal in injury-time.
Later, Switzerland set up a quarterfinal clash against the defending world champions when they beat Colombia on penalties (4-3), after the game finished goalless after extra time.
Enzo Fernandez scored in stoppage time to give Argentina an incredible 3-2 win over Egypt and a spot in the World Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday (July 6, 2026).
The defending champions had trailed 2-0 after goals from Yasser Ibrahim and and Mostafa Zico at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. But Argentina got two late goals in four minutes from Cristian Romero and Lionel Messi to get back in the game.
