Srinagar, J & K : Member of Parliament from the Anantnag–Rajouri constituency, Mian Altaf Ahmad, has urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure hassle-free movement of fruit-laden trucks along the Srinagar Jammu National Highway (NH44) stressing that the horticulture sector cannot afford delays during the peak harvesting and marketing season.

In a statement, Mian Altaf said horticulture is the lifeline of Kashmir’s economy with thousands of families depending on the timely transportation of fresh produce to markets across the country.

He noted that traffic bottlenecks and prolonged halts on the highway often lead to spoilage of perishable fruit, causing significant financial setbacks to growers and traders.

The MP called on the traffic police, transport authorities, and civil administration to put in place an effective traffic management plan that gives priority to trucks carrying fresh fruit.

He said ensuring swift passage of these vehicles would safeguard the interests of orchardists and help prevent avoidable economic losses.

Mian Altaf also stressed the importance of keeping the Mughal Road fully operational as an alternate route whenever traffic on NH44 is disrupted. Recalling the difficulties faced by fruit growers last year due to repeated road interruptions,

he said the authorities must take proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted transportation throughout the fruit season.
