Lucknow : Major news regarding the Rajya Sabha elections in UP has emerged early this morning. The Samajwadi Party has announced its second candidate. The SP informed via its social media handle (X) that, alongside the party’s National General Secretary Ramgopal Yadav, industrialist Dhanraj Nathwani will file his nomination papers on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. It is reported that the Samajwadi Party will field a third candidate as well in a few days. Let us tell you who Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani is.
Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, the Samajwadi Party’s second candidate, hails from a prominent business family. According to media reports, Dhanraj Nathwani is associated with the Reliance Group. His father, Parimal Nathwani, is also a Rajya Sabha MP; Parimal Nathwani entered the Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand just a few months ago.
Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani also serves as the President of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). He was unanimously elected as the GCA President in November 2022. Prior to this, he served as the association’s Vice President and was a key member of the core team responsible for the construction of the world’s largest cricket stadium the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Dhanraj Nathwani is also the Vice President of the Dwarka Devasthan Samiti, which manages the renowned Dwarkadhish Temple. Additionally, he has been involved in sports development as the President of the Gujarat State Football Association. He studied International Business at Regent’s Business School in London and holds an MBA in Corporate Law and Public Relations from the National Institute of Management. It is worth noting that eight seats allocated to the BJP, along with one each for the SP and the BSP, are falling vacant in the Rajya Sabha elections.
The tenures of SP’s Prof. Ram Gopal and BSP’s Ramji Gautam are coming to an end. Based on numerical strength, the Samajwadi Party can easily win two seats; even after doing so, it would still retain a substantial number of MLAs. Consequently, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has decided to field three candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections. During a meeting of the legislative party, Akhilesh himself announced that his uncle, Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav, would be sent to the Rajya Sabha. Dhanraj Nathwani has now entered the fray as the second candidate. The SP has already made the announcement regarding the second candidate, and the name of the third candidate is now awaited.
