Jammu Kashmir : Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Sunil Sharma has welcomed US Ambassador Sergio Gor’s recent remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, terming them a significant diplomatic achievement for India and a setback for Pakistan’s attempts to project the Kashmir issue internationally.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Sharma said the status of Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India was beyond doubt.
He said the US envoy’s statement reaffirmed India’s long standing position and reflected the effectiveness of New Delhi’s diplomatic efforts.
The BJP leader accused Pakistan of repeatedly trying to mislead the international community and create uncertainty over Jammu and Kashmir’s position.
Sharma said the latest statement from the US Ambassador had weakened those efforts and demonstrated that India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir is receiving clear recognition at the global level.
Gor, during his remarks on Wednesday, had described Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India, reiterating a position that aligns with New Delhi’s consistent stand on the issue.
Sharma said the development was important in countering attempts to give an international dimension to an issue that India maintains is an internal matter and stressed that such statements strengthen India’s diplomatic position.
