The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new facility that allows Aadhaar holders to add or update their registered email address directly through the official Aadhaar App, making the process quicker and more convenient than ever before.

Launched on July 1, 2026, the feature has witnessed an impressive response, with over 2.5 lakh residents updating their email IDs within just two days. The service is being offered free of cost for the next six months, allowing users to complete the process from their smartphones without visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre.

The initiative is part of UIDAI’s continued efforts to make government services more accessible under the Digital India mission and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. By linking an email address to Aadhaar, users will receive instant notifications whenever their Aadhaar is used for authentication. This added layer of security helps residents monitor the usage of their Aadhaar and quickly identify any unauthorised activity.

The Aadhaar App has emerged as a comprehensive digital platform for managing Aadhaar services. According to UIDAI, more than 40 lakh users have already updated their mobile numbers through the app, while nearly 10 lakh residents have successfully changed their address details without visiting a service centre.

UIDAI has encouraged Aadhaar holders to take advantage of the new email update facility and keep their Aadhaar information up to date. The authority said the latest feature reflects its commitment to delivering secure, seamless and citizen-friendly digital services while supporting the vision of a digitally empowered and inclusive India.
