New Delhi : Abhijit Deepke, head of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP), seized upon the setback suffered by President Donald Trump’s party in the U.S. midterm elections as an opportunity to target India’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Gyanesh Kumar. Deepke remarked that Gyanesh Kumar would never have allowed such a situation to befall Trump. Deepke and his associates allege that Gyanesh Kumar facilitates victories for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Although the CJP chief has paused his protests until Diwali, he has recently been relatively quiet regarding Gyanesh Kumar. However, Donald Trump’s defeat in the U.S. elections brought Gyanesh Kumar back to his mind. Taking a dig at the CEC and the government, Deepke remarked, “Gyanesh Kumar would never have let this happen to Trump.” He implied that had Gyanesh Kumar managed the U.S. elections, Trump would not have been defeated.

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he accepts the results of the midterm elections. In these elections, the Democratic Party strengthened its position by securing key victories in contests for the Senate and governorships. The Democrats won U.S. Senate seats in Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio—states where Trump had actively campaigned and urged voters to cast their ballots for his preferred candidates.

The CJP which previously spearheaded a movement that forced Dharmendra Pradhan to resign following the NEET paper leak—halted its ‘Fix the Schools’ campaign after an English-language newspaper published a report concerning the Election Commission. Subsequently, the party launched a protest against Gyanesh Kumar, declaring that they would not rest until he resigned. CJP alleges that CEC Gyanesh Kumar has improperly caused the names of 130 million (13 crore) voters to be removed from the electoral rolls. However, following the imprisonment of CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurabh Das, Deepak has put the movement on hold until Diwali.

For the time being, CJP’s protest against Gyanesh Kumar is confined to social media. Abhijit Deepak, Saurabh Das, and Ashutosh Ranka can be seen launching sharp attacks or taking jibes at Gyanesh Kumar on social media platforms. Their level of aggression appears to have diminished compared to before.

Having signed a ‘peace bond’ with the Delhi Police, it is no longer easy for Deepak, Das, and Ranka to take to the streets to protest. Faced with legal complications, the CJP leaders are now working on a new strategy for their movement. The CJP maintains that their campaign against Gyanesh Kumar will continue, though the methods employed may change.
