New Delhi : A significant gap has emerged between the number of names removed from the draft electoral roll released in Delhi on August 31 and the number of applications received for the inclusion of names. Between August 31 and October 22, 250,000 individuals submitted ‘Form 6’ applications, representing only 5.27% of the total number of names removed. During the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, 4.76 million (47.6 lakh) names were removed from the draft electoral roll published on August 31. Among those who submitted ‘Form 6’ applications (to have their names added), the largest share came from West Delhi, while the smallest share originated from New Delhi.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) stated that a total of 250,754 ‘Form 6’ applications were received by October 22. Of these, 158,470 applications were submitted between September 20 and October 22. The applicants include both new voters and individuals whose names had been removed during the SIR process. Additionally, 212,400 ‘Form 6’ applications had already been received prior to the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 31.

The CEO’s office noted that 3.3 million (33 lakh) entries were flagged during the verification process—cases involving individuals who either lacked a link to the 2002 electoral roll or whose data contained discrepancies. Of these, 2.95 million (29.5 lakh) cases have since been resolved, and these names will now be included in the final electoral roll. Should anyone file an objection using ‘Form 7’, these entries will be subject to re-verification. The CIO office has stated that all applications will be processed by November 30. Following this, the final electoral roll (voter list) will be released on December 4.

Form 6 is used to register a name in the electoral roll. The Election Commission has also urged individuals whose names were removed from the electoral roll during the Special Summary Revision (SSR) to fill out this form so that their names can be re-added to the list.

In Delhi, the areas that submitted the highest number of Form 6 applications include Tilak Nagar, Janakpuri, Rajouri Garden, and Vikaspuri, with a total of 30,361 applications. This is followed by Kirari, Rohini, and Mangolpuri in North-West Delhi, which accounted for 25,925 applications. From East Delhi specifically Trilokpuri, Laxmi Nagar, and Gandhi Nagar 24,200 applications were received. South-East Delhi ranks fourth, with 4,153 people from Okhla, Kalkaji, and Tughlakabad submitting Form 6. The lowest number of applications came from the New Delhi area (including the New Delhi and Delhi Cantt regions), where only 4,341 people applied. In Old Delhi covering Ballimaran, Matia Mahal, Sadar Bazar, and Chandni Chowk 10,668 individuals submitted applications to have their names added to the electoral roll.
