Cyclone Scare Along East Coast : IMD Monitors Developing Weather System
Bhubaneswar, Odisha : A developing Bay of Bengal weather system is raising concerns as it may intensify into a cyclonic storm in the coming days. With winds potentially reaching around 90 kmph, coastal areas are being urged to stay alert. Will the system move towards Odisha and Andhra Pradesh? The next few days will be crucial as the IMD tracks its path and strength.A developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal has raised concerns along the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) monitoring its possible intensification into a cyclonic storm.
According to the information attributed to IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, a low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and is likely to intensify into a depression on October 24, followed by a deep depression on October 25. The system may develop into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal on October 26 and could move towards the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts by the morning of October 28. Wind speeds are also expected to increase as the system develops.

Winds currently estimated at 35–45 kmph over parts of the Bay of Bengal may strengthen to 45–55 kmph on October 24, with gusts potentially reaching 75 kmph on October 25. By October 26, wind speeds could reach around 90 kmph, according to the reported forecast. The system is expected to become more organised as it moves towards the coast, but its eventual intensity, peak wind speed and precise landfall location will depend on further meteorological observations.
The IMD chief has reportedly indicated that a more reliable estimate of the maximum wind speed will be possible after the system develops into a depression. Coastal residents are advised to remain alert, follow official IMD bulletins and heed instructions issued by local authorities. Fishermen and people involved in maritime activities should follow the latest official advisories regarding sea conditions and fishing restrictions.
