He Failed 6 Times, His Family Sold Land, But He Never Gave Up

New Delhi : Some success stories are not built overnight,they are forged through years of failure, sacrifice and relentless determination. Alok Raj Narayan, from the small village of Gorihari in Bihar’s Nawada district, has become an inspiring example of perseverance after failing the UPSC examination six times before finally securing success on his seventh attempt.

His journey to the Indian Police Service was marked by years of preparation, financial struggles and immense family sacrifice. Born on January 12, 1992, Alok completed his early education at a government school in his village before completing his intermediate studies in Rajasthan and later pursuing higher education. He began preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2015 and faced repeated setbacks in his first six attempts, but refused to abandon his dream.

In the Civil Services Examination 2021, whose results were declared in 2022, he secured an All India Rank of 346 and earned a place in the Indian Police Service (IPS). Behind his achievement was a remarkable sacrifice by his father, Naresh Prasad Yadav, a retired schoolteacher, who reportedly sold land in Nawada and the village to support his son’s education and UPSC preparation.

The family decided that financial difficulties should never become a barrier to Alok’s dream, even selling land that had originally been purchased to build a house in Nawada.

Alok had spent nearly 15 years away from his village while pursuing education, employment and his civil-services ambition. Interestingly, shortly before the final UPSC results, he had also been selected for a position in the Ministry of Home Affairs, but after securing his UPSC rank, he chose the IPS and subsequently joined the Uttar Pradesh cadre after training.

Today, Alok is drawing attention for his work as a police officer and his tough approach towards crime. His journey stands as a powerful reminder that failure is not the end of the road it can become the foundation of success when determination refuses to surrender.

From a village classroom to the IPS, Alok Raj Narayan’s story proves that when courage survives repeated failure, even the toughest dream can become reality.
